Melin Açikel is a young internationally award-winning bassoonist.
She was born 27.07.2004 in Berlin.
At the age of five she began her music career by playing self-created piano compositions and taking accordion lessons.
Due to her passionate love for deep tones she also started to play the bassoon at the age of six.
Melin attends the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Music High School in Berlin since 2014 and is a young student at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. As part of her musical education, she received bassoon lessons from Andreas Zenke, Markus Kneisel, Prof. Rainer Luft and Paul Gregor Straka. Since 2016, Melin has also taken part in master classes with Prof. Klaus Thunemann, Prof. Dag Jensen, Prof. Philipp Zeller, Prof. Holder, Prof. Laurent Lefevre, Prof. Frank Forst, Prof. Malte Refardt and Prof. Matthias Racz. Since 2021 she has also been a young student at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media where she has lessons with Prof. Bence Bogányi.
At September 2022 Melin Acikel will study at the Zürcher University of Arts the Bachelor in Bassoon by Prof. Matthias Racz.
The young bassoonist won numerous first prizes with the highest number of points in the regional, state and national competitions of "Jugend musiziert" (2015 solo, 2017 ensemble, 2018 solo, 2021 solo). In this context, she also received the Miele Special Prize Berlin and the special prize of the "Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben" (2021). Furthermore, she won the first prize at the Hamburg Instrumental Music Competition in 2019 and the first prize at the 12th International Competition "Giovani Musicisti" in Trevisio, Italy in 2020. In the same year she received the "JukaBB Award" with her trio. In addition, she and her septet received the "Känguru Förderpreis" as part of a chamber music workshop at the JukaBB and won the first prize at the VII Odin International Online Competition.
In addition to the "Internationale Musikakademie für musikalisch Hochbegabte" (2018), Melin Açikel is also supported as a scholarship holder by the "Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben" (2020) and by Yehudi Menuhin LIVE MUSIC NOW (2021).
Melin Açikel has been a member of the “Bundesjugendorchester” since 2020. In addition, she has been playing in the “Junge Philharmonie Brandenburg” (2017) and the “Landesjugendorchester Berlin” (2020). Together with Tabea Streicher (piano), she founded the duo DUO MOMENTUM in 2018.
At October 2024 Melin wins the academy of the Vienna Philharmonic.
